Dr Chris Lease

@ Deputy Chief Public Health Officer, South Australian Government

Dr Chris Lease is currently one of three Deputy Chief Public Health Officers appointed in South Australia to assist in the COVID-19 response.  Chris’ portfolio in this role is to support the South Australian Government put in place measures to help government and the community respond to COVID-19.

Prior to taking on this role, Chris was the Executive Director of Health Protection and Licensing Services at SA Health.  This role oversees the health protection functions of SA Health.

Chris’ qualifications include a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) and a PhD in microbiology, both from Flinders University of South Australia.

Chris has been involved in lecturing and research in health and environment-related fields at Flinders University.  He has extensive experience in working in Local Government in environmental health and regulatory and community services management, as well as policy analysis and development through employment with South Australia’s peak representative body for Local Government, the Local Government Association.
